The new stage in the New York Experience area didn’t generally attract big crowds in its first year, but look for a better flow to the western end of the grounds in 2018 as the new events center building and such established favorites as the Cow Birthing Center and the Talent Showcase draw fans. Readily accessible transportation along Broadway could give it a major boost, so State Fair Hound hopes to see that as well.
Progress continues on the new event center at the New York State Fair. Completion is expected by opening day, though the area will still be under construction during the Syracuse Nationals in July.
If you’re wondering about the exact location of the new building, it’s going up at the western end of the grounds, near the Youth Building and the Talent Showcase stage, just past the sheep barn. Riding the Broadway Skyliner to its western terminus would be the most fun way to get there.
With 20 weeks to go to opening day of the 2018 New York State Fair, State Fair Hound starts the weekly countdown of photos from last year.

Central New Yorkers are really lucky to have the New York State Fairgrounds in our area. Not only are we at the front door of one of the nation’s premiere annual events, but the century-old buildings and adjoining infrastructure host agricultural events, trade shows, parties, theater and music year round. July’s Syracuse Nationals would be the biggest event of the year in most communities. Here it’s merely a precursor to the Great New York State Fair, opening Aug. 22 this year. Check the website for the schedule between now and then.
The Chevy Court acts announced so far point to the 2018 New York State Fair putting a premium on diversity in its concert lineup. With five musical acts and one rapper booked, a variety of styles, ages and cultures are represented and that’s just how it should be done.
The usual variety of lunkheads have weighed in, responding to related articles on our local daily paper’s website, displaying both their ignorance and intolerance.
Here’ a hint: if you don’t know the performer, maybe he/she/they don’t fit your taste. If the only comment you can make is sarcastic and critical, apparently this act isn’t one you’ll enjoy. Either way, watch for shows you want to see and go to the Fair on those days.
On days when the act isn’t what you enjoy, don’t go. But recognize that someone else may enjoy them and accept the fact that diversity is both fair-minded and good business.
