State Fair Hound is a blog launched in 2013 and dedicated to the great New York State Fair and those who love it. Every summer New Yorkers celebrate their home state in grand style on the shores of Onondaga Lake, just outside the city of Syracuse and we’re there to give you a close-up look. There’s plenty written about the Fair every year when August rolls around, but we have the experience and familiarity to give it a colorful, close-up, unique look–intimate, passionate and honest.
This publication and its staff are completely independent and not affiliated with the Fair or any of its entities.
I’m the editor, Kevin Corbett, a native Syracusan who has been attending the Fair since childhood and for over 30 years has covered the event as a freelance reporter, writing dozens of stories about every aspect of this wonderful festival. I’ve walked every inch of the Fairground’s 375 acres, visited every one of its dozens of buildings and interviewed Fair fans, business people, entertainers, exhibitors and insiders of all descriptions. I’ve known every director from Wayne Gallagher (1989-1995) to Peter Cappuccilli, Jr. (1996-2005), Dan O’Hara (2007-2012), Troy Waffner 2014-2022) and Sean Hennessey (2022-2024).
Every Fair we spend many hours on the grounds, continuing to expand our coverage and increase our file of original Fair photos, many contributed by Nick LoPresti, our photo editor, who is pictured at left. Readers are encouraged to click on photos to see larger, sharper images of our work.
Please check back often as we promise to keep you informed and entertained, before, during and after the Fair, even posting occasional blurbs during the off season to keep up on events, changes to the Fairgrounds and staff and to stay focused on all things Fair.

Find Sustainable Energy Incentives Info in Center of Progress Building at 2014 NYS Fair
The New York Biomass Energy Alliance is at the 2014 Great New York State Fair in the Center of Progress Building with information on practical incentives available to convert residences and businesses to local, sustainable bioenergy.
The incentives are available from Renewable Heat NY/RHNY, an initiative of Governor Andrew Cuomo, providing incentives toward the installed costs of high-efficiency, low-emission wood heating systems, and the NY Green Bank, a state-sponsored investment fund supporting clean energy.
NYBEA Board Chairman Matt McArdle, president of Mesa Reduction Engineering and Processing, based in Auburn, NY, said, ‘The New York Biomass Energy Alliance welcomes the efforts of Renewable Heat NY to catalyze the high-efficiency, low-emission wood heating industry. New York will be a national leader in developing this low-emissions industry and the Alliance will continue to support the momentum that has been building here.’
Evoworld Inc. President Lou Okonski, the host of the RHNY announcement of the first round of incentives on July 29, said, ‘The Governor’s program will give a big boost to bioenergy appliances manufactured in New York State, while helping New York residents and businesses save a substantial amount of money on heating starting this winter.’
To learn more about the first round of RHNY incentives, visit the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority booth in the Center of Progress Building at the Great New York State Fair, visit the NYBEA website at http://www.newyorkbiomass.org, or call 607-316-3437.

Thanks, Mark. Let’s hope for the best. Good luck to our old favorite P-Z-O’s and all of the vendors who feed us that fabulous Fair food.
